7/25/16 UN Grants GPU ECOSOC Special Consultative Status
July 26, 2016- The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) approved GlobalPartnerUnited LLC's application for special consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) upon recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations. GPU, a social enterprise, focuses on innovative design via ICT for sustainable, scalable, and inclusive capacity building in public health and healthcare, early childhood development, and education systems with related enterpreneurship for economic empowerment of women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Consultative status enables an organization to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiaries bodies, as well as with the UN Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies. Consultative relationships with NGOs enables the Council or one of its bodies to seek expert information or advice from organizations with special competence in a subject matter, as well as for NGOs to be informed about the provisional agenda of ECOSOC, and request to place items of special interest in the provisional agenda of the Council. GPU now may designate and send representatives to UN HQ in NYC and Geneva to register and participate in events, conferences, and activities of the UN, and sit in observer status at public meetings of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, General Assembly, Human Rights Council, and other UN intergovernmental decision-making bodies. This status allows submission of written statements relevant to the work of the Council on subjects of special competence. These statements may be circulated by the Secretary-General of the UN to the members of the Council.
